Poll: Massive 83% Majority of French Support Deportation of Foreign Nationals
A recent public opinion survey reported that a substantial majority of respondents in France support deporting certain categories of foreign nationals, including those convicted of crimes, repeat offenders, and some who remain unemployed for extended periods.
According to the reported poll:
83% of respondents supported deporting foreign nationals who are delinquent, criminal offenders, or long-term unemployed.
Support was especially high among younger respondents, with 90% of those aged 15–24 expressing support.
Backing crossed socioeconomic lines, with 78% support among higher socioeconomic groups, 84% among lower socioeconomic groups, and 87% among unemployed respondents.
The findings suggest that concerns about public safety, immigration policy, economic pressures, and national identity continue to be significant issues in French public debate. Immigration and integration remain among the country’s most discussed political topics, with supporters of stricter policies arguing they are necessary to reduce crime, strengthen social cohesion, and preserve French cultural traditions. Others argue that immigration policies should distinguish between law-abiding immigrants and those who commit crimes, while also emphasizing the importance of integration, human rights, and economic contributions made by immigrants.
As with any public opinion poll, results reflect the views of respondents at the time the survey was conducted and should be considered alongside the survey’s methodology, question wording, sample size, and margin of error.
